Class 111 EMU
In 1978, following an announcement of the large scale modernisation programme for the Borawian Railways, 45 new
four-car electric multiple units were ordered for use on suburban services. The units would have a capable maximum
speed of 128 Km/h (80 mph) and was to be classified as the 111.
A total of 45 trainsets were built between 1980 and 1982. The first 25 units were built by BREL York Works in England.
The remainder of 20 units were domestically built at Eibar Locomotive Works in Western Borawia.
The first Class 111 four-car unit was completed by BREL York Works in England in February 1980. The unit was then
shipped to Borawia and commissioning took place shortly after arrival. The first units entered passenger service in
August 1980.
Originally all deployed in Harwan Suburban Services, thirty units now operate services in the Eastern region and
fifteen operate around Harwan on longer suburban routes.
Between 2002 and 2005, the entire Class 111 fleet were given a life-extension refurbishment. The refurbishment
included internal refresh, new high-back seating and dot matrix displays. A new top headlight was also added.

This livery was introduced from 1981. Subsequent units built after that point received the new Regional Services livery.

In 1988, the new Regional Services was unveiled to replace the silver livery with white and red stripes after just seven
years, and was first used on a Class 111 unit. This time, the livery only applies to units based in the Eastern Region.
The Class 111 based in Harwan was to receive their Connecta Blue livery a year later.

Fifteen Class 111 based in Harwan received the Connecta blue livery from 1989.

This livery first appeared from 2002 when the Class 111s were refurbished. Again, only the Eastern Region based units
received this livery. Following the introduction of the new "Eastern Services" livery, the "Regional Services" livery
disappeared from the Class 111 fleet by January 2013.

Once the Eastern Region based Class 111 units were refurbished, the Harwan based units followed. The first Connecta
Class 111 unit was refurbished in 2004, and the last unit was done in August 2005, ending the Class 111 refurbishment
programme.

In 2010, the Eastern Region of the BNR decided to introduce it's new "Eastern Services" livery.
All Eastern Region based units received the livery by January 2013.
